In 2001, she received her Ph.D. in Language Engineering from the Department of Electronic Engineering of the City University of Hong Kong. She has taught at Shandong University, Nankai University, and, in the United States, at Hope College, the University of Louisville, and George Washington University respectively. In 2013, she returned to join the faculty at her alma mater, Shandong University. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Research Institute of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at Shandong University.
